Montgomery, Alabama — Nearly five years after Ronnie Phifer was killed outside his home, his family continues to search for answers in a homicide investigation that remains unsolved.
Ronnie’s sister contacted The Vivid Faces of the Vanished to help keep attention on the case and the family’s ongoing pursuit of justice.
To investigators, Ronnie’s death became another open homicide case.
To his loved ones, he remains a son, brother, father, uncle, and friend whose absence is felt every day.
According to family members, Ronnie was the type of person who would help anyone in need.
“Ronnie would give the shirt off his back,” his family said.
Ronnie Phifer Murder Investigation
On May 25, 2021, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Montgomery Police officers and emergency medical personnel responded to reports of a shooting in the 3000 block of Fairwest Place near Mobile Highway and West Fairview Avenue.
When officers arrived, they found 33-year-old Ronnie Phifer outside his residence suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound.
He was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.
According to family members, Ronnie had simply gone out to the grocery store to provide for his family before the shooting occurred.
His death devastated relatives and left two daughters growing up without their father.
Arrests, Dismissals, and New Leads
The investigation initially appeared to be moving forward.
On June 8, 2021, Montgomery Police arrested 24-year-old Quindarius Wilson and charged him with Ronnie’s murder.
However, on July 15, 2021, the charge was dismissed after investigators reported newly discovered evidence.
The case remained open.
In October 2022, investigators identified Laderrius Calhoun as a person of interest after alleging he pawned a piece of Ronnie’s jewelry the day after the killing.
Calhoun later turned himself in for questioning but was released without charges.
Despite multiple investigative developments, no one has been convicted in Ronnie’s murder.
Family Still Seeking Justice
As of May 2026, Ronnie Phifer’s homicide remains an active cold case.
His mother, Keturah Phifer, described him as a funny and lighthearted man who loved cars, working out, and spending time with family.
At the time of his death, Ronnie was the father of two daughters who were just 9 years old and 6 months old.
Nearly five years later, his family continues to live with unanswered questions.
Central Alabama CrimeStoppers has increased the reward for information leading to an arrest to $5,000 in hopes that someone with knowledge of the crime will finally come forward.
