Patrick Christopher Kelly Jr.’s Death Now Investigated as Homicide

When the mother of 18-year-old Patrick Christopher Kelly Jr. reached out directly to The Vivid Faces of the Vanished in 2025, she was desperate for someone to listen.
Her son had disappeared. His body had later been recovered from the Ochlockonee River, and authorities initially said there was no indication of foul play.
But Patrick’s mother believed her son had been murdered.
She contacted The Vivid Faces of the Vanished seeking exposure, answers, and pressure for a complete investigation into what happened to him. At the time, she told us:
“I believe he was robbed and murdered while in a vulnerable state — but his story has not received justice or media attention.”
More than a year later, the investigation has taken a significant turn.
Patrick Christopher Kelly Jr.’s death is now being investigated as a homicide.
Patrick Disappears
Patrick was 18 years old when he disappeared on April 5, 2025. He was last seen near the 2300 block of Jackson Bluff Road in Tallahassee.
Patrick was legally blind and had been diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa, a progressive condition that severely affected his vision. Published reports have also stated that he was living with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder and experiencing mental health struggles around the time of his disappearance.
Those diagnoses, however, were not Patrick’s identity.
His mother described him as a good kid who loved life, encouraged others, stayed out of trouble, and desperately wanted his independence.
Patrick once loved playing football, but his declining eyesight forced him to give up the sport around age 14. After turning 18, he bought himself a motorized scooter. His mother worried about him traveling alone because of his limited vision, but Patrick wanted the same freedom other young men his age had.
In the days before he disappeared, his mother knew he was struggling. She said she begged police and medical professionals for help and warned that her son was vulnerable. But because Patrick had recently turned 18, she struggled to get anyone to intervene.
When Patrick disappeared, his mother said a Purple Alert was not issued.
So she searched for him herself.
Day after day, she followed leads and traveled to locations where people reported seeing her son.
Patrick Is Found in the Ochlockonee River
On April 12, 2025, the search ended in heartbreak.
Patrick’s body was discovered near the Ochlockonee River boat ramp in Midway, Florida.
The initial investigation did not publicly identify evidence of foul play. But his mother could not shake her belief that something had happened to Patrick before he ended up in the river.
She refused to stop fighting for answers.
Patrick never got the opportunity to walk across the stage and receive his high school diploma. His parents eventually had to accept it for him, carrying home the diploma their 18-year-old son had earned but would never get to hold himself.
Death Now Investigated as a Homicide
More than a year after Patrick’s death, the Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office is now investigating his death as a homicide.
Investigators are seeking information about Patrick’s movements before his death, including anyone who may have seen him or knows what happened after he disappeared. Authorities have also sought information connected to areas associated with Patrick before his body was discovered.
Big Bend Crime Solvers is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest.
For Patrick’s mother, the homicide investigation represents something she had been fighting for since her son was found.
But an investigation is not an answer.
She still does not know exactly what happened to Patrick during the week he was missing or who was responsible for his death.
Patrick was only 18. He was visually impaired, vulnerable, and struggling, but he was also a young man who loved life and wanted his independence. His mother refused to allow the circumstances surrounding his death to be dismissed, and she continued pushing for her son’s case to be taken seriously.
Now she is fighting for the answer she has wanted from the beginning: what happened to Patrick Christopher Kelly Jr.?
