It was an early March morning.
The kind of morning when families wake up, start coffee, and get ready for work. The kind of morning that feels ordinary.
But on March 13, 2010, that ordinary morning shattered.
Around 8:30 a.m., the body of 24-year-old Kirk Douglas Becker II was discovered behind a trash bin near an office complex on Lake Club Court on Columbus’ East Side.
He had been shot several times.
Detectives believe the shooting happened sometime after 9 p.m. the night before, on Friday, March 12.
Hours earlier, Kirk had gone to an after-hours establishment known as The Rooftop, located in Suites 204 and 206 of an office building at 2243 S. Hamilton Road.
Investigators said a significant number of people were inside the club while he was there.
A crowded space.
A full room.
And yet no clear answers.
What Happened After The Rooftop
At some point after leaving that club, Kirk ended up behind a building, shot and left near a dumpster.
Relatives said at the time they believed he may have been killed by someone he knew.
But they did not know who.
They did not know why.
That is the part that lingers.
Someone in that building saw him.
Someone knew who he was with.
Someone knows what led to gunfire that night.
Fifteen Years Without Justice
Instead of celebrating birthdays, building a career, and growing older, Kirk’s name became part of Columbus’ list of unsolved homicides.
More than 15 years later, there have been no arrests.
No public resolution.
Kirk Douglas Becker II is buried in Eastlawn Cemetery in Columbus.
But his story is not buried.
Not with the people who still carry his name in their hearts.
