Montgomery, Alabama — June 28, 2020
Keshon Gardner was 30 years old when his life was taken in broad daylight on a neighborhood street in Montgomery, Alabama.
Around 11:30 a.m. on June 28, 2020, Montgomery police responded to the 5900 block of Oakleigh Road in the Regency Park community after receiving reports of a person suffering from a gunshot wound.
When officers arrived, they found Keshon.
He had been shot.
According to investigators, Keshon had been walking with a woman when an unknown person suddenly opened fire.
After being struck by the gunfire, he did what many people would instinctively do.
He ran.
Not away from help.
Toward it.
His Final Moments
Wounded and desperately trying to survive, Keshon ran into a nearby residence hoping someone inside could help save his life.
Despite those efforts, his injuries were too severe.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
His family was left to cope with the sudden loss of a son whose life ended in the middle of an ordinary Sunday morning.
A Vehicle of Interest
As detectives worked to piece together what happened, investigators identified a white, newer model Ford Fusion with dark tinted windows as a vehicle of interest connected to the shooting.
Authorities have continued asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the vehicle and the person or persons responsible for Keshon’s death.
Years have now passed.
Despite the investigation, no arrests have been announced.
A Mother Still Seeking Justice
Keshon’s mother, Mollie Gardner, has refused to allow her son’s case to be forgotten.
She has continued advocating for answers, speaking his name, and pushing for justice in hopes that someone with information will finally come forward.
Her determination has helped keep attention focused on a case that remains unsolved.
To encourage new leads, CrimeStoppers increased the reward for information leading to an arrest.
The reward now totals $7,500, including $5,000 from CrimeStoppers and an additional $2,500 contributed by Montgomery City Council member Oronde Mitchell.
Four Years Without Answers
Keshon Gardner was only 30 years old.
His life ended in the middle of the day.
The person responsible has never been publicly identified.
Someone knows why gunfire erupted on Oakleigh Road that morning.
Someone knows who was inside the white Ford Fusion investigators have spent years trying to identify.
Until those answers come, Keshon’s family continues waiting for the justice they have sought since June 2020.
