The following morning, June 10, children walking along Deer Park Street made a horrifying discovery.
A human head had been placed on the front porch of a random home.
It was not hidden.
It was not discarded.
It had been deliberately left there.
Investigators soon identified the victim as Jeremy Jerome Jackson.
Hours later, officers located his headless, badly burned body in a wooded area off Green Avenue, less than a mile away.
The Autopsy Revealed Jeremy Was Still Alive
Investigators determined Jeremy had been shot in the leg.
The wound was not fatal.
The autopsy later revealed he was still alive when his head was severed.
The brutality of the crime shocked investigators and devastated Jeremy’s family.

Johnny Ford said he last saw his brother the night before Jeremy disappeared.
Then another family member sent him a photograph of a severed head and asked whether it was Jeremy.
In that instant, the family’s nightmare became reality.
Investigators believe the placement of Jeremy’s head on a stranger’s porch—and the circulation of the graphic images—was intended to send a message.

The Investigation
The murder attracted national attention.
A reward of up to $20,000 was offered for information leading to an arrest.
The Jackson Police Department was joined by the FBI, DEA, and ATF as investigators searched for answers.
In 2019, Jackson police announced they had identified persons of interest and continued analyzing evidence.
Since then, very few public updates have been released.
No arrests have been made.
