A Super Bowl Sunday That Ended in Tragedy
On February 7, 2021—Super Bowl Sunday—30-year-old Antwjuan was on house arrest at his apartment in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood.
Knowing he couldn’t leave, he invited several family members over to watch the game with him.
His family never made it.
Instead, according to his loved ones, a few people they did not know came to his apartment that evening.
Hours later, everything changed.
At approximately 11:10 p.m., neighbors in the 7700 block of South Yates Boulevard reported hearing a man and woman arguing.
Moments later, gunshots rang out.
When Chicago police officers arrived, they found Antwjuan lying face down in the doorway of his first-floor apartment with multiple gunshot wounds.
According to his loved one, Antwjuan appeared to have been heading toward the building’s exit when he was attacked. His apartment was less than 10 feet from the exterior door.
He had been shot in the face and from behind.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Family Learned the Truth the Next Morning
His family didn’t even know he had been killed.
The following morning, a relative happened to see his address and description posted on a legal help firm’s website and local spot news.
Terrified, she repeatedly called Antwjuan’s phone.
Eventually, a detective answered.
That was how his family learned he was gone.
The next day, detectives returned to process the apartment and continue their investigation.
More than four years later, no one has been arrested.
No suspects have been publicly identified.
Antwjuan’s murder remains an unsolved cold case.
Remembering Antwjuan
To those who loved him, he was so much more than another victim.
He was a father.
A brother.
An uncle.
A protector.
In the words of his loved one:
“That day was Super Bowl Sunday. He was on house arrest and asked multiple family members to come over to watch the game. His family didn’t come, but a few unknown friends did. Later that night, police said witnesses heard a male and female arguing. He was found shot dead in his hallway as if he was headed outside, even though his apartment was on the first floor, not even 10 feet from the building door leading outside. He was shot in the face as well as from behind. He wasn’t identified until the next morning when a family member saw his address and description on a legal help firm’s website and spot news. She called his phone over and over until the detectives picked up. The next day detectives went out to investigate his apartment. Antwjuan’s case has been cold since. He was a father, a brother, an uncle, a PROTECTOR.”
Someone knows who walked into that apartment.
Someone knows who left Antwjuan dying in his own doorway.
His family has waited far too long for answers.
