Atlanta, Georgia — The Desmond Dix disappearance remains one of Atlanta’s most troubling unsolved missing persons cases. Nearly three decades have passed since the 16-year-old was abducted at gunpoint in broad daylight and never seen again.
On January 30, 1996, Desmond Santonio Dix was spending time with his older brother, Savin Dix, in Atlanta. The brothers were sitting inside a vehicle together when two armed, masked men suddenly approached.
According to reports, the gunmen confronted the brothers at gunpoint. Savin managed to escape by jumping from the vehicle and running from the scene. Desmond was unable to get away.
The armed men abducted the teenager and disappeared.
Despite the brazen nature of the crime, the fact that it occurred during the daytime, and the presence of witnesses, investigators have never publicly identified the individuals responsible.
At the time of his disappearance, Desmond was 16 years old. He stood 5’6″ tall and weighed approximately 135 pounds.
Years passed with no confirmed sightings and no public resolution to the case. No arrests have been announced, and no one has been held accountable for Desmond’s disappearance.
For nearly 30 years, Desmond’s family has lived with unanswered questions about what happened that day. They continue to hope that someone with information will come forward and provide the answers they have sought for decades.
