He Called His Family From the Swamp Saying He Was Lost. Then Adrian Cox Jr.’s Phone Went Dead.
Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana — February 14, 2020
From the beginning, everything happened fast.
Authorities said a stolen 2014 Nissan Altima was spotted speeding along Interstate 49 in Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana, at approximately 115 mph.
A police pursuit followed for nearly 22 miles.
Then the vehicle crashed near Ajax.
According to authorities, 20-year-old Adrian Cox Jr. got out of the vehicle and ran into the swampy woods surrounding the area.
He was never seen again.
Adrian Called His Family From the Woods
Around 9:16 p.m., Adrian managed to call his family from somewhere inside the wooded and swampy terrain.
According to his loved ones, he sounded terrified, disoriented and unsure of where he was.
He told them he was lost.
That became the last time his family ever heard his voice.
Shortly afterward, Adrian’s phone went dead.
There has been silence ever since.
An Extensive Search Found No Trace of Him
Authorities launched a major search effort for Adrian.
K-9 teams were brought into the area. Helicopters searched from above. Crews used ATVs, horseback patrols and thermal-imaging equipment while searching through miles of woods, brush, water and difficult swamp terrain.
But investigators found no trace of Adrian.
No clothing.
No remains.
No confirmed evidence showing what happened after he ran into the woods.
Despite the extensive search, there was no indication that Adrian ever emerged from the area.
More Than 6 Years Without Answers
Adrian Cox Jr. was described as 5’10” tall and approximately 162 pounds.
He was last seen wearing jeans and a jacket.
More than 6 years have passed since Adrian disappeared.
His family still does not know what happened after that final phone call.
Whether Adrian became injured or trapped somewhere in the difficult terrain, encountered another person after the call, or somehow left the area has never been established.
What his family does know is that Adrian was alive at approximately 9:16 p.m. that night, frightened and trying to tell them he was lost.
Then his phone went dead.
No confirmed sighting of him has been reported since.
