Sincere Akers Was Dropped Off at a Hospital — His Murder Remains Unsolved

Columbus, Ohio — July 5, 2021

Sincere Akers was only 19 years old when he was shot and killed in Columbus, Ohio.

Just after midnight on July 5, 2021, at approximately 12:20 a.m., Columbus police officers were dispatched after a ShotSpotter alert detected gunfire on East Whittier Street. Investigators determined the shooting had occurred outside near 1113 Wilson Avenue in Southeast Columbus.

But Sincere was not there when officers arrived.

Sincere Is Dropped Off at the Hospital

At approximately 12:29 a.m., just minutes after the gunfire was detected, an unidentified person dropped the wounded teenager off at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

Sincere had been shot.

Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at 1:13 a.m.

His murder became Columbus’ 105th homicide of 2021.

The person who drove Sincere to the hospital was never publicly identified, and whoever fired the shots that ended his life has never been held accountable.

An Unsolved Columbus Homicide

The Columbus Division of Police continued investigating Sincere’s murder, and his case was added to the Ohio Attorney General’s Cold Case Database.

Central Ohio Crime Stoppers also featured his murder as a “Crime of the Week” in an effort to generate information that could finally lead investigators to his killer.

Still, no arrest has been made.

Sincere was only 19.

Someone was with him after he was shot. Someone got him into a vehicle. Someone drove him to the hospital and left him there.

And more than 5 years later, Sincere’s family is still waiting to learn exactly what happened outside near Wilson Avenue that night and who was responsible for taking his life.
