Bonnie Marrow Murder: Richmond Mother Killed After Visiting Son’s Grave

Christmas was only three days away.
For Bonnie Marrow, the holiday wasn’t about shopping or celebrations.
It was about grief.
At 56 years old, the devoted wife, mother, and nurse made the heartbreaking trip to Oakwood Cemetery on Nine Mile Road to visit the grave of her son, Robert Lee Cox Jr.
Robert had been murdered just a year and a half earlier.
On June 13, 2010, the 22-year-old was shot and killed while sitting inside his car on Seibel Road in Henrico County.
His murder had never been solved.
Like so many parents who lose a child, Bonnie continued to visit the place where her son had been laid to rest.
A Mother Never Made It Home
On December 22, 2011, Bonnie said goodbye to her son once again and began driving home in her black Acura.
She never made it.
As Bonnie traveled along Nine Mile Road near the intersection of Mechanicsville Turnpike, gunfire suddenly erupted.
Multiple bullets ripped through her vehicle.
She lost control of the car before crashing near North 25th Street and Q Street.
When first responders arrived, they found Bonnie slumped over the steering wheel.
She had been shot multiple times.
She died at the scene.
A mother who had already buried her son had now been taken by violence herself.
Two Murders. No Answers.
Investigators have stated they do not believe Bonnie’s murder is connected to the killing of her son.
Yet, despite separate investigations, both murders remain unsolved.
One family.
Two loved ones murdered.
No arrests.
No justice.
For more than a decade, Bonnie’s husband and loved ones have lived with the unimaginable reality of losing both a son and the woman who never stopped mourning him.
Someone knows who opened fire on Nine Mile Road that December afternoon.
Someone has lived with that truth for years while two homicide cases remain unsolved.
