Eighteen-year-old Aaliyah Shadeay Bell had her whole future ahead of her.
She dreamed of becoming a hairstylist.
She was a student at Phoenix Academy, a flexible, non-traditional high school in Rock Hill.
She had plans for her life.
Then, just two days before Thanksgiving, she disappeared.
A Walk That Ended in Mystery
On the night of November 25, 2014, Aaliyah left her uncle’s home on Chestnut Street at approximately 10:00 p.m. to walk to her godmother’s nearby residence.
She made it there.
She later left to return home.
She has never been seen again.
Aaliyah was last seen wearing a black peacoat, gray joggers, neon blue and green shoes, and a silver lip ring.
She also has a tattoo of stars on the left side of her abdomen.
What happened after she left remains a mystery.
Everything Was Left Behind
Aaliyah left behind everything.
Her cellphone.
Her wallet.
Her clothing.
Her personal belongings.
A family member had wired her $100 so she could go holiday shopping, but she never picked up the money.
Her loved ones say she was active on social media, yet every one of her accounts went silent the night she disappeared.
Investigators have found no electronic footprint, tax records, credit activity, or other signs that Aaliyah has built a new life elsewhere since 2014.
Authorities have not ruled out the possibility that she may have been trafficked and have previously focused investigative efforts on the Charlotte, North Carolina, Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Atlanta, Georgia areas.
More Than a Decade Without Answers
Today, more than a decade later, Aaliyah’s family is still searching for answers.
She was 18 years old when she vanished.
She would now be 30.
