She’Nyah O’Flynn was only 12 years old.
She had traveled from Covert, Michigan, to spend her summer with her father in Chicago.
She had been there for just two days.
Instead of returning home with memories of family and summer vacation, her loved ones were forced to bring her home for burial.
A Summer Visit Turned Tragic
On June 14, 2018, She’Nyah and her family were returning home from a cousin’s graduation party.
At approximately 11:20 p.m., they arrived in the 3900 block of West Wilcox Street.
She’Nyah stepped out of the vehicle while holding her 1-year-old cousin in her arms.
Moments later, gunfire erupted.
At first, family members believed they were hearing fireworks.
Then they realized someone was shooting.
A bullet struck She’Nyah in the neck.
The baby’s husband—She’Nyah’s cousin’s husband—was shot in the foot.
The 1-year-old child She’Nyah was carrying was not injured.
She’Nyah was rushed to Stroger Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
Justice Still Hasn’t Come
She’Nyah had only been in Chicago for two days.
More than seven years later, no one has ever been arrested or charged in connection with her murder.
Her case remains unsolved.
She was just a little girl spending the summer with her father.
She never got the chance to go back home.
