More than 15 years have passed, yet the person responsible for Sherrell Austin’s murder has never been held accountable.
Her family is still waiting for answers.
An Attempted Robbery Turned Deadly
On July 8, 2010, at approximately 2:00 a.m., Sherrell was riding as a passenger in a vehicle that had stopped near the intersection of 23rd Street and Hebert Street in St. Louis.
Without warning, a charcoal gray or green sedan pulled alongside them.
Four men got out.
According to investigators, the group attempted to rob the occupants of the vehicle.
As the victims tried to escape, gunfire erupted.
Sherrell Austin was struck during the attempted robbery.
She died from her injuries.
The four suspects fled the scene in the sedan and disappeared into the night.
Witnesses told investigators they believed the weapon used in the shooting was a 9mm semi-automatic handgun.
Fifteen Years Without Justice
Despite years of investigative efforts, no arrests have been made, and Sherrell’s murder remains unsolved.
Someone knows who was inside that vehicle.
Someone knows who pulled the trigger.
And after all these years, Sherrell’s loved ones are still waiting for someone to do the right thing.
A reward of up to $5,000 is available for information leading to a felony arrest.
