Tuskegee and Montgomery, Alabama — The murder of Jordan Lashelle Fitzpatrick remained a mystery for more than two years after burned human remains were discovered in Montgomery County and left unidentified.
Jordan Fitzpatrick was just 16 years old when she disappeared in April 2023.
The Tuskegee teenager was living with a family member at the time and had her entire future ahead of her. When she vanished, her family reported her missing and began searching for answers.
As weeks turned into months, those answers never came.
What Jordan’s loved ones did not know was that investigators had already made a grim discovery.
On August 18, 2023, burned human remains were found behind a building on Poplar Street in Montgomery.
The remains were so badly damaged that investigators could not immediately determine the victim’s identity. Authorities eventually classified the death as a homicide, but the victim remained unidentified.
For nearly two years, Jordan’s family continued to wait and hope.
Jordan Fitzpatrick Identification
In September 2025, advances in genetic genealogy and DNA testing finally provided the answer her family had feared.
The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences positively identified the remains as Jordan Lashelle Fitzpatrick.
The confirmation ended years of uncertainty but brought devastating news to those who loved her.
Jordan’s family finally knew what had happened to their missing teenager.
They also learned she had been the victim of homicide.
Following the identification, jurisdiction over the investigation shifted from Macon County, where Jordan had originally been reported missing, to Montgomery County, where her remains had been discovered.
Active Homicide Investigation
District Attorneys Mike Segrest and Azzie Oliver confirmed that Jordan’s death is being investigated as a homicide.
According to Segrest, investigators continue to actively pursue leads in the case.
“There is an active investigation,” Segrest said. “Expect more information to be released in the upcoming days.”
Jordan’s family laid her to rest in September 2025 after finally receiving confirmation of her identity.
But the person responsible for her death has not been publicly identified, and the homicide remains under investigation.
Jordan was only 16 years old.
A daughter.
A niece.
A cousin.
A friend.
For two years, she remained unidentified.
Today, her name has been restored, but her family is still waiting for justice.
